Dangers of Obesity

Many people are not worried about having a fuller figure as long as they feel confident and have the right attitude. Being overweight doesn’t mean you’re obese. Obesity means your weight is 20% above your ideal weight. There are many significant health risk associated with obesity. Enlargement of the heart and hypertension are significant health threat because these organs have to work hard to carry on efficiently. According to the researchers, “Obesity is a serious international health problem that increases the risk of several common diseases.”

Six million Americans are now morbidly obese and is a growing concern. They say obesity runs in the family because many weight-related processes are affected by genes but this is an old observation. Research shows that infants born to overweight mothers are more likely to have weight problems in adulthood. However, since obesity increased in the last years, researchers found out that there are other contributory factors that may predominantly increase the cause of this debilitating disease. Family diet, and lifestyle habits, attitude, age, wealth, personal stress, and exercise contribute to severity of the problem. Too many calories intake and unable to burn more calories is a major cause.

“According to a Surgeon General report, obesity is responsible for 300,000 deaths every year in the United States.” People who are obese have a greater chance of developing type 2 diabetes that, may lead to heart disease, stroke, and blindness. Cancer of the cervix, ovary, and the breast are cancer risks also associated with obesity.
